Panic Attack Symptoms; 5 Take Control Training Tips

Post By drblumberg

1.       Stop False Catastrophic Thinking

When a sudden surge of shortness of breath, weakness and rubbery legs, numbness and tingling in your hand and feet, dizziness and woozy feeling, heart thumping and inner trembling, heat waves and sweats create havoc in your body, don’t add False Catastrophic Thinking.  Don’t fuel the panic attack symptoms with enemy thoughts of stroke, heart attack, brain tumor, die, I am struggling for my last breath and I will never see my family again. I am on the verge of losing my mind. I will be locked up in a mental ward. I am about to collapse.  I will never get help.

Ask yourself a key question.  How many doctors have I seen?  What did they say?

Constant Symptoms…Day and Night…When Will They Go Away?

Now I have weak and drained feelings that never seem to leave me….what could it be? This is not panic!

When the major panic attacks subside, you can be left with one or two seemingly “constant symptoms.” You wonder, “Why do I still feel so weak and drained all the time?” You wake up every morning wondering if today will be another day full of the same dreaded weakness all through your body. You wonder “What could be causing me to feel so weak and drained all the time? Maybe the Doctor missed something!  Maybe I have some undetected disease progressively invading in my body.”

Don’t develop Online Disease!!  Checking, researching and worrying about you panic attack symptoms can feed the symptoms with fear. The dread of the symptom can lead to symptom preoccupation.  You wonder “Will will these symptoms ever go away?” When will they go away”?

2.       When will isolated “constant” panic attack symptoms disappear?

Panic attack symptoms disappear, when you stop asking the question, “When will my panic attack symptoms disappear?”

 The Hooray Reflex

All of a sudden, you wake up one morning and feel “I am back to my old self. I feel great!” You think “I am panic-free at long last!   Before you know it, you old friends, dizziness, weakness, rubbery legs and shallow breathing have a return engagement in your body.

The Dread of Recurring Panic Attack Symptoms

You think…”Oh no! I will never get better! I am a hopeless case.  You walk around with agitation, ready to throw in the towel.  You develop the Three D’s…despondency, discouragement and despair.

3.       Don’t shrink back when panic attack symptoms make a return visit.   The panic-free life is right around the corner.  Develop a neutral orientation toward your panic attack symptoms.

Don’t forget the paradoxical rule.  The more you fight your symptoms, the stronger they become and the longer they last.

4.       Look at your symptoms as nothing more than natural normal feelings of adrenaline.

Finally, you must develop a permanent positive orientation toward your panic attack symptoms for the rest of your life.

5.       Welcome the return of panic attack symptoms for life.

This educational information should always be used in consultation with your doctor to confirm a diagnosis and review available treatments for panic disorder.
